I was a happy stay at home mama, until one night in 1999, I got a phone call that changed my whole world. My husband was beat with a baseball bat, while on duty as a correctional officer. He sufferers from a traumatic brain injury. I had to start working. I worked part-time almost everywhere in the Estancia Valley. I substituted at Estancia municipal schools. I worked nights at the local gas station, I worked at both the Headstart and the senior center. I was a tax pro during tax season. I was the planning and zoning officer for the town of Estancia. I was records clerk and correctional counselor heck, I even worked for the US Census. I worked these jobs all while helping my Husband Alberto, run a small cattle ranch and maintaining over a dozen rentals.
